Urban Interactions
The opening event of the Biennale was held on December 21st and 22nd 2019 in Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning (MOCAUP), one of the main venues of the exhibition. The chief curators Carlo Ratti, Meng Jianmin, Fabio Cavallucci were present, as well as a group of renowned architects, artists, designers, and science fiction writers including Wang Jianguo, Sou Fujimoto, Wang Shu, Liu Cixin. The professionals and academics held a series of academic seminars centered on this year’s theme — “Urban Interactions”.
12月21日至22日，主展场之一深圳当代艺术与城市规划馆迎来多场重量级开幕活动。2019 UABB 三位总策展人卡洛·拉蒂、孟建民、法比奥·卡瓦卢奇及王建国、王澍、刘慈欣、藤本壮介等全球建筑、艺术、设计、科幻领域的大咖们齐聚，围绕本届深双 “城市交互”主题相关的内容展开深度对话和讨论。

The three chief curators and academic curator of this year’s UABB and the curators of past editions gathered together at the “Urban Interaction” academic seminar. The curators reviewed the challenges and experiences in the curatorial process, and summarized the changes in the concepts and methods of curation. They also discussed the significance of the theme “Urban Interactions”, as well as sharing curatorial thoughts and visions that are sustainable to future biennales.

《九座城市，万种未来》图书发布会

As the first debut of the book Nine Cities, Millions of Futures and the simultaneous opening of the exhibition of the same name, the event was based on both the book and the exhibition. The launch centers on the “The Ascending City” section, showing the perspectives of artists, writers, architects, musicians and different people on future cities. At the launch, Yan Wu, the executive chief editor of the book, Fan Pengyu, the representative of the publishing organization, and Zhang Yifan, the youngest 16-year-old author of the book, gave speeches respectively. In the subsequent “Nine Cities, Millions of Futures – Bay Area and the Future City” talk, the chief editors of this book, Mr. Liu Cixin, Mr. Meng Jianmin and guests across different fields such as literature, architecture, art, education, etc. expressed their opinions on how technology connecting with the city and their views on the prototype of the future city in many science fiction works, as well as the possibility of the shape and lifestyle of the future city, providing readers and audiences with cross-domain and multi-dimensional experience and inspiration.
作为《九座城市，万种未来》图书的首次发布，以及同名展览的开幕仪式，发布会以图书和展览为引，立足2019深港城市\建筑双城双年展（深圳）的“城市升维”板块，展现了多位艺术家、作家、建筑师、音乐家以及不同人对未来城市的不同展望。发布会上，本书执行主编吴岩、出版机构代表范鹏宇、本书最小作者16岁的张艺凡分别致辞。在随后的“九城万未-大湾区与城市的未来”主题对谈中，本书主编刘慈欣先生、本届深双总策展人孟建民先生以及横跨文学、建筑、艺术、教育等不同领域的嘉宾表达了各自对于科技与城市关联的认识、对众多科幻作品中未来城市原型的看法，共同探讨未来城市的形态和生活方式的可能，为读者与观者提供了跨领域、多维度的体验与启迪。

This seminar was hosted by Zhang Yuxing, the chairman of UABB Academic Committee. The guests extended their perspective from the past to the future, and discussed how urban residential uses, planning, construction and overall management can break through the present cognitive scale in the exponential development of science and technology — Ascending in the interactions, and Interactions in the Ascending.
本研讨会由深双学委会主任张宇星主持，重量级的嘉宾们将视角从过去伸向未来，探讨了在科技呈指数级发展的当下，城市的居住使用、规划建设和统筹管理如何突破当下的认知维度，在“交互”中“升维”，在“升维”中“交互”，对未来城市的发展模式开启了全新探索。
